One of the most common and highly visible areas with loose skin and excess fat is the underarms. Our arm lift procedure can tighten and tone the underarms to improve the contours of your upper body.

What is Arm Lift Surgery?
Commonly referred to as Brachioplasty, arm lifts achieve three major goals:

  • Extracting pockets of excess fat from the underarms.
  • Removing sagging, loose skin.
  • Tightening underlying muscles.
  • Drooping skin and fat in the underarms can occur for multiple reasons including heredity, aging and weight fluctuations. Although there are several creams and non-surgical solutions that claim to give the same results, only arm lift surgery can achieve all three goals safely and permanently.

How is Arm Lift Surgery Performed?
The incision length and pattern of your surgery will be discussed with you beforehand and will depend on the amount of excess skin that is being removed. Doctor Hendricks will place incisions carefully to minimize visible scarring and will help you choose the surgical options that best fit your needs.

Typically, incisions are placed either on the inside of the arm or the back of the arm and may extend from the top of the underarm to just above the elbow. Excess fat is either excised or removed with liposuction, and muscle structures are tightened.

The arm skin is then draped, creating a toned and tightened appearance, and Dr. Hendricks will suture the skin back together.

Am I a Good Candidate for Arm Lift Surgery?
In addition to having overall good health and no contraindicating medical conditions for surgery, ideal candidates for arm lift surgery have:

  • Relatively stable body weight.
  • A significant amount of upper arm laxity.
  • Quit smoking or do not smoke at all.
  • Realistic cosmetic goals and expectations for surgery.

What is Recovery Like?

Sutured areas will be bandaged, and a compression garment may be issued to minimize swelling. Doctor Hendricks will advise you on aftercare instructions for your incision sites to reduce the risk of post-surgical infection.

Bruising and swelling may last for several weeks, and discomfort is usually easily controlled through prescription pain relievers. While patients often notice immediate results after surgery, the improved contours of your upper arms can be fully enjoyed after healing is complete.
