For those looking to get rid of stubborn fat deposits without having to undergo liposuction or other invasive procedures, we may have the solution. The revolutionary new CoolSculpting technique is safe, performed as an outpatient procedure, involves no downtime on the part of the patient, and is completely non-invasive. Exposing fat cells to controlled cold temperatures is a proven method to eliminate them with long-lasting results.
The Science behind CoolSculpting
At Southeastern Dermatology, we utilize the CoolSculpting procedure because it involves no surgery and will improve the appearance of the dermal layers in a long-lasting way in the weeks and months that follow.
Controlled chilling of cells is performed by the use of a specialized applicator device connected to a hose that directs heat transfer from the body’s tissues to a cold spot on the wand. Heat energy moves from areas of rapid molecular movement to materials that are less vibrant. When cold air chills tissues, it is because the heat energy in the tissue is being moved via conduction.
Known as cryolipolysis, this technique chills fat cells underneath the dermal layers. The targeted fat cells are actually frozen until they die. Over the next few weeks, the body eliminates these cells naturally, and the result is an overall reduction in the size of fat deposits in the targeted area. The skin also tightens and becomes suppler. Collagen production is actually increased.
What to Expect
A consultation will result in a customized treatment plan to target the areas where fat deposits are prominent. The belly area, thighs, and buttocks are the areas that are most often treated using the CoolSculpting technique.
Patients need not be given an anesthetic — the cooling effect is sufficient to dull any discomfort. Treatment sessions generally last between 1 and 2 hours. Results from the treatment can be seen about 3 weeks after treatment, and fat will continue to disappear for several months following the procedure.
The body has a tendency to store fat in certain areas. However, when existing fat cells are eliminated, buildup tends to become more evenly distributed. This is the major benefit of the CoolSculpting treatment method. The results are longer lasting that what is experienced with laser treatments — fat cells typically do not re-emerge in areas that have been treated with CoolSculpting.
Are You A Candidate?
We emphasize that anyone who has a medium amount of fat buildup in the belly or upper thigh area is a candidate for the CoolSculpting procedure. We can even perform the treatment on certain areas of the face so long as the skin is being supported by enough underlying tissue.
