What is a Thigh Lift?
Thigh lift surgery creates smoother skin and improves definition in the thigh area by removing excess skin and fat. This procedure is often performed by itself but can also be done in conjunction with other body enhancing procedures such as liposuction.
The incision patterns made by Dr. Hendricks depend on several factors such as the location of the treated area, how much correction is necessary and patient preference. Incision placement can be discussed during your consultation, but two types of incision patterns are made:
- Medial thigh lift – This type of incision is placed inside of the groin, extending downward and wrapping around the back of the thigh.
- Outer thigh lift – The incision is placed in the groin and wraps around the hip, following the natural creases of the skin.
Doctor Hendricks will advise you on the best type of incision for your individual needs, and will utilize the latest techniques to optimize results and minimize visible scarring.
In addition to removing excess skin and fat, the underlying tissue and muscle structure of the thighs is redistributed and tightened to improve tone and definition. Deep sutures are placed to keep the tissues in place, and the incisions are closed.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Thigh Lift?
Although a thigh lift can safely and effectively reshape and improve the contours of your lower body, it is not a weight loss solution or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. Ideal candidates for this procedure are at a stable, healthy weight, have no contraindicating medical conditions that could impair surgery or recovery, do not smoke or are willing to quit prior to surgery, and have realistic cosmetic goals.
During your consultation, Dr. Hendricks will discuss your health, medical history and expectations of the surgery before determining if a thigh lift is right for you.
What is the Recovery Like?
After surgery, bandages will be placed at your incision sites, and Dr. Hendricks will advise you on proper aftercare procedures to reduce the risk of infection or adverse effects. An elastic or compression garment may also be recommended to control swelling.
While immediate results are often visible after a thigh lift, the full results may not be evident for several weeks while the thighs are bruised and swollen. During your Consultation, Dr. Hendricks will estimate the amount of time you will need to take from your normal activities to ensure proper healing.
