Laser hair removal is the perfect solution for those who are tired of waxing, tweezing or shaving the hair they don’t want on their bodies. Today, it’s one of the most common cosmetic procedures found in the United States.
The procedure works by shining beams of highly concentrated light into hair follicles. The pigment in the follicles then absorbs the light ultimately destroying the hair altogether. Laser hair removal is performed on all kinds of areas of the body including the face, arms, bikini line, under arms and legs.
Opposed to other methods of hair removal, laser hair removal is best for those with dark, coarse hair. That’s because the lasers target this specific type of hair without having to damage any of the skin around it. This method is very precise.
A lot of people opt for laser hair removal because of how fast it achieves results. Each pulse of the laser takes less than a second and so many hairs can be treated at once. In fact, an area as big as a quarter can be treated in one second. For example, laser hair removal on the upper lip can be done in less than a minute. Larger areas, though, like the legs or back usually take about an hour.
As far as what to expect, patients will need their hair to be cut to about a couple millimeters above the skin surface. Then, the laser equipment used will be adjusted based on the individual. In fact, these adjustments are based on the color, thickness and location of the hair that is being treated as well as the color of the individual’s skin color. A cold gel will later be placed on the outer layers of the skin to protect it from the laser.
From there, the technician will place a pulse of light into the treatment area. Once that’s done, the technician will need to keep an eye on the area for a couple of minutes to make sure there’s not a bad reaction from this and that the most accurate settings were used. When the procedure is over, the patient may be given ice packs or anti-inflammatory creams to help with any discomfort or redness. Each treatment should be spaced out four to six weeks apart until the hair is gone.
If you are dealing with body hair that you want gone before the summer approaches, set up an appointment now. This procedure is truly life-changing, as it will give you the confidence you need to be proud of your body.
