When it comes to removing excess fat from the body, sometimes diet and exercise are not enough to target stubborn areas such as the abdomen, thighs and underarms. At Southeastern Dermatology Cosmetic Surgery Center, we offer multiple liposuction techniques to safely and effectively sculpt and add definition to your problematic areas.
Contact us today at our Lumberton, North Carolina location to schedule a consultation with board certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Andrew Hendricks and find out what liposuction can do for you.
What is Liposuction?
One of the most common cosmetic procedures worldwide, liposuction technology and techniques are continuing to advance to increase patient comfort, create better results and reduce the amount of recovery time.
At Southeastern Dermatology, Dr. Hendricks has extensive training in liposuction and will customize your procedure to fit your individual needs:
- Traditional liposuction – The most commonly recognized technique of liposuction involves small incisions near the treated areas. A thin, hollow tube called a microcannula is then inserted, and fat is broken up and suctioned through the tube using vacuum extraction.
- Laser liposuction – Utilizing modern laser technology, this form of liposuction uses light energy to heat and liquefy excess fat. The fat is then more easily extracted, and smaller incisions and less recovery time are often associated with laser liposuction.
- Liposculpting – While traditional liposuction is used to remove significant amounts of fat, liposculpting is utilized when a more toned, fit appearance is desired. Using a small microcannula, a minimum amount of fat is removed and remaining fat is sculpted to mirror the underlying muscle structure for a more chiseled look.
Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is designed to remove a moderate amount of fat and is not a solution for weight loss. Ideal candidates for liposuction should be within their target weight and have good skin elasticity. During your consultation with Dr. Hendricks, factors such as your overall health, medical history, cosmetic expectations and goals will be discussed to determine which technique is right for you.
What is the Recovery Like?
The amount of time needed to recover from liposuction depends on the individual condition and the technique that was used. While laser-assisted liposuction and liposculpture often result in less bruising and downtime, this can vary from patient to patient.
Bruising and swelling are commonly associated with liposuction procedures, and any incisions that require sutures must be properly cared for in order to reduce the risk of infection. Doctor Hendricks will provide instructions for any necessary aftercare and monitor your progress through follow-up appointments.
