As we age, our bodies tend to store more fat in certain areas such as the buttocks, thighs, belly and upper arms. Making changes to your diet often results in overall improved health, but the stubborn fat remains. Not only is it unsightly, but it can make it harder for the heart to pump blood throughout the circulatory system because of the additional mass.
Liposuction is a safe, proven method for removing excess fatty tissue. Usually, liposuction is an outpatient procedure with no overnight hospital stay required. If you’re suffering from stubborn fat deposits and are interested in sculpting your ideal physique, contact us to find out if liposuction is right for you.
What is the Procedure Like?
Liposuction procedures are performed using a scope on the cannula so that the doctor can more easily see the affected area. If a laser or ultrasound is used to liquefy or rupture the fat cells, a heating sensation or cold vibration may be felt by the client.
A typical liposuction procedure that removes fat from just one area takes only about an hour. The suction is gentle, and the client feels minimal discomfort during the procedure. However, the client may feel a bit disoriented afterward, so someone else should be present in order to drive the client back home.
Results are not permanent because the body will continue to deposit fat in the affected area. However, most individuals report satisfactory results lasting for an extended amount of time.
Who is A Good Candidate?
Not everyone is a suitable candidate for liposuction. The doctor will determine whether your fat-to-mass ratio is too high. Typically, individuals with less than 30 percent excess weight due to fat deposits are good candidates. The skin should be firm and supple, not rolled or taking on an overly bumpy appearance. Liposuction performed beneath loose, cottage cheese textured skin can result in very loose skin and a multitude of wrinkles after the procedure is completed. Because smoking causes the constriction of capillaries, smokers are advised to quit before considering liposuction. Tiny, constricted blood vessels rupture more easily when disturbed by suction.
