What is Eyelid Surgery?
Also commonly referred to as an eyelift or blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery reduces puffiness in the lower eyelids and removes excess skin in the upper eyelids. Depending on your individual condition and cosmetic goals, the surgery can vary.
As the skin in the face ages, several visible signs of aging begin to take place. The loss of elasticity in the skin can result in wrinkles in the eye area, causing drooping eyelids and wrinkles underneath the eyes. In addition to appearing worn out, some cases of excess eyelid skin can even impair peripheral vision.
During an eyelift, both the upper and lower eyelids can be operated on if necessary. Doctor Hendricks will create small incisions that follow the natural crease of your eyelids to minimize visible scarring. Once the skin is separated, excess skin, fat and muscle is removed to create a refreshed, more alert appearance.
Although often performed as a standalone procedure, eyelid surgery can also be paired with brow lift surgery to further enhance the facial profile.
What is Brow Lift Surgery?
For visible signs of aging in the forehead area, brow lift surgery is a possible option. While different techniques are available to perform this procedure, it involves incisions in the hairline and/or around the eyes to access the underlying forehead structure. The muscle and tissues are tightened, and the skin is redraped to erase wrinkles and lines.
Depending on your individual condition and where your hairline begins, the procedure may be adjusted. Doctor Hendricks will discuss the surgical options with you prior to surgery.
Am I a Candidate for Eyelid or Brow Lift Surgery?
During your consultation with Dr. Hendricks, factors such as your overall health, medical history, skin condition and cosmetic goals and expectations will be assessed to determine if eyelid or brow lift surgery is right for you, and the proper course of treatment will be created to meet your individual needs.
What is the Recovery Like?
The extent of recovery after surgery will depend on the type of surgery and techniques that were used. After both eyelid and brow lift surgery, bruising and swelling will be present for a few weeks while the treated areas heal. Doctor Hendricks will instruct you on how to properly care for your incision sites in order to reduce the risk of infection as well as advise you on how much time should be taken from normal activities in order to properly heal.
